2012 New Orleans Oyster Festival

Acme Oyster House is proud to be a sponsor for the 2013 New Orleans Oyster Festival.

The New Orleans Oyster Festival will educate the country about the benefits of the Louisiana Gulf Oyster, honor and celebrate the restaurateurs and oyster farmers who have solidified the New Orleans French Quarters position as the Oyster Capital of America. Proceeds from the event will go to Local Coastal Communities. Restaurants from all over the city of New Orleans participate in this 2-day event held June 1 and 2 down in the Quarter. Over 20 restaurants will be participating this year and they are sure to serve up some of the tastiest oyster delicacies this city has to offer. So come on down and find us shuckin’!

The Acme Oyster House® Oyster Eating Contest will take place on June 2 at 11:30am. Come out to see the toughest eating competitors in the world slurp down the best ice-cold oysters. The 2013 Acme Oyster Eating Contest will be held on June 2nd at the New Orleans Oyster Festival. About a dozen major league eaters will compete in this years event.

Things get dirty at this MLE event with dozens of oysters being slurped down in a matter of minutes. In 2010 Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas set a record of 37 dozen oysters. That record was shattered on last year, when Thomas polished off 47 dozen Acme oysters in 8 minutes, a full dozen more in two minutes less that her original 2005 record. Rules for the oyster tournament force contestants to use forks, not lift the shells to their mouth, and all oysters must be cleared from a tray before starting a new one. Come out and enjoy the fun this year!
